THE IMPORTANCE OF A REGULAR DENTAL CHECK UP

The American Dental Association recommends visiting your dentist every six months for regular checkups and routine teeth cleanings to keep your teeth and gums healthy. We understand that you have a busy schedule, so when you’re preparing to visit the dentist in Houston, please remember that your appointments can last between 45 and 90 minutes.

LOOKING FOR ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?

When a patient comes in for an orthodontic consultation. The patient gives his information to the front desk and they proceed with a treatment plan. If the patient accepts, the first step is to acquire orthodontic records which, for the most part it is all done in the office, such as photographs, dental impressions and study models. We only send the patient to a lab to take a Cephalometric R-Ray that cannot be done in our office. Once we receive the x-ray we send it out for a Jackson Analysis. When we receive everything, we give patients a callback and set up an appointment for the placement of brackets. Once the brackets are placed, the patient will have monthly adjustments in order to ensure the fastest results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I expect during my first dental visit in Houston, TX?

During your first visit, the dental team will focus on understanding your oral health and overall needs. You will typically start with check-in and paperwork, followed by a conversation with the dentist about your dental history, concerns, and goals. The appointment usually includes a thorough exam, possible X-rays, and a professional cleaning. After evaluating your teeth and gums, the dentist will explain any findings and recommend treatment options if needed. This visit helps create a personalized care plan designed to maintain long-term oral health and comfort.

How long does a first dental appointment usually take?

A first dental visit generally takes about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your oral health condition and whether X-rays or additional services are required. This time allows the dental team to review your health history, complete a comprehensive exam, and provide cleaning or preventive care if appropriate. Scheduling enough time ensures the dentist can properly evaluate your smile and answer any questions you may have about your treatment or ongoing care.

What should I bring to my first dental appointment in Houston?

Patients are usually asked to bring a valid photo ID, dental insurance card, and completed new patient forms if available. If you have previous dental records or X-rays, bringing them can help the dentist better understand your oral health history. Providing accurate medical information and medication details also helps ensure safe and effective treatment during your visit.

Will I receive a cleaning during my first visit?

Many patients receive a professional cleaning during their first appointment, but it depends on your oral health condition. If your teeth and gums are in good condition, the hygienist may perform plaque and tartar removal and polish your teeth during the same visit. In some cases, if advanced treatment is needed, the dentist may schedule a separate appointment to address specific dental concerns first.

Why are regular dental visits important for patients in Houston?

Routine dental visits play a key role in preventing serious oral health problems. Regular exams and cleanings help detect issues such as cavities, gum disease, and infections before they become painful or costly to treat. Preventive care also helps maintain fresh breath, strong teeth, and overall health. Visiting a dentist consistently allows small concerns to be addressed early, helping patients avoid emergency treatments and maintain a confident, healthy smile.
