Dental Emergencies We Treat
- Severe or throbbing toothaches
- Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth
- Knocked-out teeth
- Abscesses, gum infections, and facial swelling
- Lost fillings and crowns
- Painful or infected wisdom teeth
- Broken dentures and damaged dental work
- Injuries to the gums, lips, or tongue
Many of these are repaired with a root canal, a dental crown, or a tooth extraction. Not sure if your problem is an emergency? Call and tell us what’s happening.

What to Do Before You Get Here
Knocked-out tooth: Hold it by the top, not the root. Rinse it gently without scrubbing. Put it back in the socket if you can, or keep it in a cup of milk. Try to reach us within 30 minutes.
Toothache: Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently around the tooth. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed on the label. Don’t put aspirin directly on your gums.
Broken tooth: Save any pieces, rinse your mouth, and hold a cold compress on your cheek.
Swelling: Use a cold compress on the outside of your face. Don’t try to drain a gum bump yourself.
Lost filling or crown: Bring the crown with you and chew on the other side.

Affordable Emergency Dental Care
Worrying about cost shouldn’t keep you in pain. We work with most major dental insurance plans, including Delta Dental, Cigna, MetLife, Aetna, Humana, and UnitedHealthcare, and our team will help you understand what your plan covers.
No insurance? You’re still welcome here. We offer financing through CareCredit and give you a clear price before treatment starts. Learn more on our financial information page.

What Happens at Your Emergency Visit
- Call us. Tell our front desk what happened. We’ll fit you in as soon as possible, often the same day.
- Exam and X-rays. Dr. Malespin examines the area and takes digital X-rays to find the cause.
- Pain relief first. Our first priority is getting you comfortable. Many problems are stabilized or fully treated in the same visit.
- A clear plan and price. If you need more treatment, we explain your options and the cost before we start.

Dentist or Emergency Room?
Most tooth problems are best handled by a dentist. Hospital ERs can manage pain and infection, but they usually can’t repair a tooth.
Go to the ER or call 911 if you have:
- Swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow
- Swelling spreading toward your eye or neck
- A high fever with facial swelling
- A possible broken jaw or serious facial injury
- Bleeding that won’t stop after 10 minutes of firm pressure
Once you’re stable, call us and we’ll treat the dental problem itself.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I get a same-day emergency appointment?
In most cases, yes. Call (281) 449-1053 as early in the day as you can and tell us it’s an emergency. We’ll find the soonest available time.
Do I need to be a current patient?
No. We see new patients for dental emergencies, whether or not you have insurance.
How much does an emergency dental visit cost?
It depends on what’s causing the problem and what treatment you need. The exam and X-rays come first, and we give you a clear price for any treatment before we begin. If you have insurance, we’ll help you check your coverage.
Is a toothache a dental emergency?
A mild ache that comes and goes can usually wait a day or two for a regular appointment. Severe or constant pain, pain with swelling, or pain that keeps you up at night should be seen right away. Tooth infections don’t go away on their own.
Will antibiotics fix my tooth infection?
Antibiotics can help control an infection, but they don’t remove the cause. The tooth still needs treatment, usually a root canal or extraction, or the infection is likely to come back.
Can you save a knocked-out or broken tooth?
Often, yes, especially if you get to us quickly. A knocked-out tooth has the best chance of being saved when it’s put back within about 30 minutes and kept moist until then.
Do you treat children’s dental emergencies?
Yes. We provide pediatric dental care and see kids for chipped teeth, knocked-out teeth, and toothaches.
